Tangi Utikere to the Minister of Local Government: What advice, if any, has the Minister received on whether the funding impact statement requirements as designed are achievable for smaller councils and newly established water organisations that may lack the financial reporting infrastructure to produce the required statements by the June 2026 or June 2027 deadlines?

Hon Simon Watts: The funding impact statements for water services were design to mirror, as closely as practicable, the existing funding impact statements that councils of all sizes currently use. I have not received any advice indicating that smaller councils or newly established water organisations will struggle with the new requirements.
