29878 (2026). Tangi Utikere to the Minister of Local Government: What advice, if any, has the Minister received on whether the Commerce Commission has sufficient resourcing to monitor compliance with the ring-fencing requirements across all water service providers, given the number of new water organisations being established ahead of the 1 July 2026 deadline?

Hon Simon Watts: The Commerce Commission (the Commission) is funded through a levy charged to water service providers which finances all of the Commission enforcement and monitoring activities for water services. I have not received any advice indicating that the Commission does not have sufficient resources to undertake their responsibilities.
