29682 (2026). Teanau Tuiono to the Minister of Defence: What tools, steps or processes, if any, does NZDF use to evaluate the human rights implications of trainings and deployments?
Hon Chris Penk: The New Zealand Defence Force employs Human Rights Risk Assessments to manage potential human rights implications when conducting activities in or with foreign nations. In the event that a risk of potential human rights violation is identified, military planners will identify appropriate mitigations to determine if the risk can be managed, and will advise decision-makers of that determination.
