29600 (2026). Vanushi Walters to the Minister of Foreign Affairs: What consular or diplomatic mechanisms, if any, are available to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade to support the New Zealand citizens who participated in the Global Sumud Flotilla and were detained in May 2026 in obtaining the medical and forensic records relating to their detention?

Rt Hon Winston Peters: Any May 2026 flotilla participant that requires assistance in accessing any medical records from their period of detention can submit a request to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade's Consular division (consular@mfat.govt.nz). This request should be accompanied by explicit authorisation from the individual(s) confirming they authorise the Ministry to request and access such information. Before requesting assistance, the Ministry recommends that individuals should first contact relevant authorities to seek this information (e.g. foreign government embassies in New Zealand, medical or detention authorities in the country concerned).
