29584 (2023). Hon Jan Tinetti to the Minister of Education: What figures were used as the basis to deserve a re-examination of the costs to build a new ‘Innovation Centre’ for Kaipara College School?

Hon Erica Stanford: I am advised by the Ministry of Education that revised pricing was received from the contractor in November 2023 and that the Innovation Centre works were paused in consideration of the high cost of delivery, and that the business case was based on roll growth projections prior to Covid-19. The projected roll growth has not occurred. The Ministry should have engaged with the school earlier in the year to discuss potential risks to the project, and I am aware that the Secretary for Education has apologised to the school for the handling of this. This is also my response to written parliamentary question 29585 (2023).
