29535 (2024). Hon Barbara Edmonds to the Minister of Revenue: For the $13.650m of operational funding for personal income tax changes in Budget 2024, how many, if any, new customer facing FTEs will be hired?
Hon Simon Watts: Across all funding initiatives in Budget 2024, Inland Revenue has received funding for 396 full-time employees (FTEs) for new spending initiatives and has committed to savings equating to 62 FTEs in 2024/25. The net change to Inland Revenue’s workforce is an increase of 334 FTEs in 2024/25. 134 FTEs will be redeployed internally, and 200 FTEs are expected to be recruited. The 396 FTEs for new spending initiatives are broken down as follows: · 95 FTEs FamilyBoost · 213 FTEs investment in compliance activities · 78 FTEs personal income tax and IETC threshold changes (time-limited – 34 in 2025/26 and nil from 2026/27) · 10 FTEs final-year fees free (increasing to 13 FTE over the forecast period). All of these are frontline positions.
