29534 (2024). Hon Barbara Edmonds to the Minister of Revenue: For the ‘Reduction in Systems Maintenance and Change Capacity’ in Budget 2024, how much, if any, was previously allocated for START maintenance?

Hon Simon Watts: Inland Revenue has found $15 million a year of savings in relation to system maintenance and change capacity ($60 million over the forecast period). The savings relates to no longer funding additional change related capacity of the equivalent of 62 subject matter experts and internal testers ($7 million) and support from Inland Revenue’s technology support partner ($8 million). The saving is structured to reduce system enhancement activities and retain maintenance at a level that does not put its systems at risk over the longer-term. The START system will continue to be maintained, but some system enhancements may be delayed or may not be implemented.
