29532 (2026). Helen White to the Minister for the Prevention of Family and Sexual Violence: Further to 25541 (2026); Has there been any delays to the replacement of the New Zealand Police Family Safety System, if so, what were they?
Hon Karen Chhour: In December 2025, the Executive Board for the Elimination of Family Violence and Sexual Violence decided to pause the technology component of Project Whetū. The Centre for Family Violence and Sexual Violence Prevention is continuing to progress non-technology elements of Project Whetū, which includes working with communities towards the best practice operating model for multi-agency responses to family violence. This includes the high-risk protocol and information sharing guidance. I am advised agencies are continuing to use the existing system of the Family Safety System hosted by NZ Police. The Centre is working with NZ Police to ensure that the platform remains usable and is maximised to the extent possible.
