29531 (2024). Hon Barbara Edmonds to the Minister of Revenue: How many families or individuals, as outlined in the examples used in the tax at a glance in Budget 2024, will receive that benefit specified in each of those scenarios?
Hon Simon Watts: The scenarios in the Tax at a Glance brochure are examples based on specific household circumstances and the benefit has been mathematically calculated. Any change in the level of income or the other family circumstances will be likely to change the amount that a household is entitled to receive. The Tax and Welfare Analysis Model (TAWA) microsimulation model has not been used for the scenario calculations.
The Treasury modelling to estimate the impact of the Budget changes on the population used the TAWA microsimulation model. The microsimulation model uses the data from the Household Economic Survey to estimate the impact of the changes on the total population. This has given the average increase of $78 per fortnight for households with children, an average increase of $60 per fortnight for around 1.9 million households and shows that 3.5 million New Zealanders would gain on average $32 per fortnight.
