Hon Julie Anne Genter to the Minister of Transport: What is the estimated expenditure figure relating to the SH1 Second Mt Victoria Tunnel and Basin Reserve upgrade since October 2023 on the consultation process, administration of the project, government staff hours, and payments to consultants or external contractors, broken down per activity?
Hon Simeon Brown: Between 1 October 2023 and 31 March 2024, Let’s Get Wellington Moving spent the below on those areas. Costs cannot be split out between the MRT and SHI aspects as these were tracked across the full programme, rather than as separable portions. • Consultation or engagement costs: $0 • NZTA staff costs: $369,206 • Consultants and contractors costs: $5,408,335. Since January 2024, spending on the SH1 Second Mt Victoria Tunnel and Basin Reserve upgrade, as well as the long tunnel investigations, have been treated as one project. From 1 April 2024 to 31 May 2024 (the latest monthly figure available), NZTA has spent $1,170,148 on the SH1 Second Mt Victoria Tunnel and Basin Reserve upgrade project. This is broken down as follows: • Consultation or engagement costs: $0 • NZTA staff costs: $110,312 • Consultants and contractor costs: $1,059,836.
