29507 (2026). Shanan Halbert to the Minister for Tertiary Education: Was demand for foundational education at New Zealand Institute of Skills and Technology in 2025 greater than the amount of funding available?
Hon Penny Simmonds: I am advised that New Zealand Institute of Skills and Technology (NZIST) had demand for Level 1-2 funded programmes that was greater than the funding initially provided by the Tertiary Education Commission (TEC) in 2025. During the year, NZIST requested additional Level 1 and 2 funding to support this demand. TEC provided an additional $4 million to NZIST via the Significant Investment Plan Amendment process to meet this demand.
