29501 (2026). Hon Kieran McAnulty to the Minister of Housing: What analysis, if any, has he received of the effect of increasing the social housing income-related rent contribution from 25 to 30 percent of income on tenants with a disability and on households with dependent children, and will he release it?
Hon Chris Bishop: Analysis has considered how changes to income related rent settings may affect different groups of tenants, including households with dependent children and those with additional needs.
This analysis is high level and indicative and reflects the wide variation in household circumstances across the social housing population. It is intended to support understanding of system-level impacts, rather than to provide precise estimates for particular groups.
The Government remains focused on ensuring the system is fair, sustainable, and appropriately targeted to those with the greatest need.
Decisions on whether to release further detail on this analysis will be made in due course.
