29480 (2026). Teanau Tuiono to the Minister of Defence: Will the five MH-60R Seahawk helicopters being purchased by the Government be able to operate entirely independently from United States infrastructure, services, or other support, and if not, what functions or abilities are dependent on United States infrastructure, services, or other support?
Hon Chris Penk: The MH-60R is made available through the United States Foreign Military Sales Program, a Government-to-Government process that facilitates the sale and export of US defence equipment, services and training. This low-risk procurement option can result in more favourable pricing, both for initial purchase and through-life support. Ongoing engagement will be required with the US Government to sustain an airworthy platform that is interoperable with our ally Australia and partner defence forces.
