29472 (2024). Hon Dr Duncan Webb to the Minister of Justice: Why has there been a reduction in the appropriation for Community Justice Support and Assistance from $95,854,000 to $69,938,000?

Hon Paul Goldsmith: The decrease in this appropriation for 2024/25 is mainly due to: • a net decrease of $23.697 million for community law centres due to a time-limited increase in 2023/24 for the surplus interest generated from the lawyers and conveyancers' special fund • a fiscally neutral transfer of $3.900 million to Vote Internal Affairs for the contracting of Netsafe to support the Government's security and social cohesion priorities • a decrease of $1.500 million to reflect savings from the Mana Ōrite relationship between Ināia Tonu Nei and the Justice Sector Leadership Board, and • an expense transfer of $1.456 million from 2022/23 to 2023/24 for masjidain attack victim assistance scheme grants. This is partially offset by an increase of $2 million to increase financial grants to victims of serious crimes to cover unexpected costs of the crime, or to support the victim to participate in the justice process.
