29469 (2024). Hon Dr Duncan Webb to the Minister of Justice: Will the capital injections of $57.922m in the estimates be sufficient to bring all court buildings up to an appropriate seismic standard for public use?

Hon Paul Goldsmith: The Ministry of Justice plans to use $51.140 million of the $57.922 million in capital injections for the 2024/25 year to seismically strengthen Auckland District Court, Wellington District Court, Wellington High Court and Hamilton District Court. The four courts are being seismically strengthened to meet government recommendations that buildings with a moderate seismic risk are strengthened over time. All of New Zealand’s operational court buildings are at an appropriate seismic standard for public use.
