29466 (2024). Hon Dr Duncan Webb to the Minister of Justice: Why has the appropriation for duty solicitors and the police detention legal assistance scheme been reduced in the appropriations?

Hon Paul Goldsmith: I can advise the Member that there has been no reduction in funding, payments or availability for duty solicitors and the police detention legal assistance scheme. The components of the appropriation for these services are estimated budgets. Actual expenditure on these services is demand driven and is funded through the overall legal aid appropriation, which is expected to continue to meet the current demand for legal aid.
