29458 (2024). Hon Ginny Andersen to the Minister of Police: Further to reply 13254 (2024), why is “Adequately resource community policing, including Māori and Pasifika wardens, Community Patrol New Zealand, and Neighbourhood Watch” in the government’s coalition agreement if it’s “ultimately a matter for the Commissioner”?
Hon Mark Mitchell: WPQ 13254 (2024) asked for my view on the adequate resourcing of "community policing" in general. The Member cannot reasonably expect a Minister to address a question relating to a coalition commitment if the Member does not ask a clear question about a coalition commitment. In my view, delivery on the coalition commitment to adequately resource community policing, including Māori and Pasifika wardens, Community Patrol New Zealand, and Neighbourhood Watch looks like ensuring that those groups are adequately resourced. I continue to work with and meet a range of stakeholders to investigate how this can be done, including CPNZ.
