29449 (2023). Hon Jan Tinetti to the Minister of Education: Does the Minister intend to progress introducing short phonics checks for Year 2 students to inform parents and teachers about each child’s reading progress, as outlined in the 'National’s Literacy Guarantee' Policy Document, and if not, why not?

Hon Erica Stanford: The member can find my policy objectives for this term in the Speech from the Throne and the National Party Manifesto and agreements between the National Party and its coalition partners. I have received briefings from the Ministry of Education on the education portfolio and I am looking forward to receiving further briefings from officials.
