29390 (2025). Hon Jenny Salesa to the Minister of Customs: What threat assessments, if any, has the Minister received on the role of Chinese and Southeast Asian transnational criminal syndicates in the importation of methamphetamine, precursor chemicals, and synthetic drugs to New Zealand?

Hon Casey Costello: I have not received any threat assessments from the New Zealand Customs Service specifically related to the role of Chinese and Southeast Asian transnational criminal syndicates involved in the importation of methamphetamine, precursor chemicals and synthetic drugs to New Zealand. Customs does regularly give me updates on criminal syndicates through a number of reporting and communication channels, including the Weekly Report to the Minister of Customs and during my regular meetings with senior Customs officials.
