29365 (2025). Hon Jenny Salesa to the Minister of Customs: What coordination exists currently, if any, between Customs and the Department of Internal Affairs’ Anti Money Laundering & Countering Financing of Terrorism teams and has the working relationship been affected by role disestablishments in both agencies over the last 18 months?
Hon Casey Costello: I am advised that the New Zealand Customs Service (Customs) Financial Crime Unit and the Department of Internal Affairs’ Anti Money Laundering and Counter Financing of Terrorism team have a working relationship that includes intelligence sharing on matters of mutual interest. These include, for example, information about groups travelling to New Zealand to gamble at casinos, and reporting entities under the Department of Internal Affair’s supervision that Customs has identified in border investigations.
This working relationship has not been affected by role disestablishments over the past 18 months.
