29163 (2026). Hon Kieran McAnulty to the Minister of Housing: What modelling, if any, did the Government undertake to set the social housing income-related rent contribution at 30 percent of a tenant's income, up from 25 percent, and will he release that modelling?
Hon Chris Bishop: Analysis and modelling informed decisions on incomerelated rent settings, including consideration of household incomes, affordability, and the overall sustainability of the social housing system.
This modelling is highlevel and is intended to support understanding of how different settings may affect the system overall, including the impacts for specific types of households. It does not determine a single "optimal" rate, and policy settings involve balancing a range of factors.
Decisions on whether to release further detail on this modelling will be made in due course.
