29162 (2025). Arena Williams to the Minister of Commerce and Consumer Affairs: Does the Minister agree with the ASB customer and representative plaintiff in the Banking Class Action against ASB and ANZ who said that "Banks are the first to enforce the rules when they are owed money, yet they ask for leniency when they break the law"?
Hon Scott Simpson: I am unaware of evidence to suggest the accuracy of this statement. ANZ and ASB self-notified their compliance issues to the Commerce Commission and have agreed to compensation to affected customers that the Commerce Commission considered adequate.
