29154 (2025). Dr Lawrence Xu-Nan to the Minister of Education: What criteria, if any, are there for new school properties for fire and emergency evacuations?

Hon Erica Stanford: The Ministry of Education requires that School Boards have emergency response plans in place, including evacuation plans. In the case of fire evacuations all schools must meet the requirements of the Fire and Emergency New Zealand (Fire Safety, Evacuation Procedures, and Evacuation Schemes) Regulations 2018 (Regulations).
