29126 (2025). Hon Jenny Salesa to the Minister of Customs: What modelling, if any, has the Minister received on the likely impact of the Customs Budget 2025 initiatives on the supply of methamphetamine in NZ?

Hon Casey Costello: The new Vote Customs spending initiative funded through Budget 25 will focus on targeting those involved in lower-quantity, high-frequency drug smuggling, improve supply chain security and target “trusted insiders” and extend Customs presence overseas. While no modelling has been provided to me on the likely impact this will have, it is anticipated that as a result of the funding, Customs will be able to disrupt the importation of more illicit drugs at the border.
