29118 (2025). Hon Jenny Salesa to the Minister of Customs: What scanning or detection technologies were deployed at ports of entry in 2023/24 and 2024/25 to address methamphetamine trafficking?
Hon Casey Costello: I am advised that the New Zealand Customs Service (Customs) uses a range of scanning and detection technologies at ports of entry across New Zealand. This includes non-invasive x-ray equipment such as HCV x-ray trucks, drug trace detection and sample identification technologies and endoscopes. The use of this scanning and detection technology is complemented by the deployment of detector dogs and Customs Officers who regularly carry out physical inspections.
