29115 (2025). Reuben Davidson to the Minister for Media and Communications: What trust target, if any, does he consider acceptable for Radio New Zealand (RNZ) and how does that target compare to trust targets set for public broadcasters in comparable jurisdictions?
Hon Paul Goldsmith: Reflecting its position as a public media organisation, I expect that RNZ should have targets for public trust in the 75th percentile. This is comparable to the Australian Broadcasting Corporation, which in 2023/24 met its target of being more trusted than other media organisations by 10%, with 78% of Australians trusting the information provided by the ABC. I am advised that the BBC and the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation do not have public targets for public trust.
