29084 (2026). Hon Kieran McAnulty to the Minister of Housing: What is the Government doing to house Housing First households who have been waiting three or more years for placement, who the Homelessness Insights report to 31 March 2026 records comprise over a third of those not yet housed in the Far North and Rotorua Lakes Districts?
Hon Chris Bishop: I am advised that Housing First operates through establishing connections with households who are usually disengaged with Government funded and other support services and who have been long term homeless, so there will always be households taken into the programme by providers who are not yet housed.
The Ministry of Housing and Urban Development works with Housing First providers to identify housing solutions for those households (which may be transitional housing or supports other than social housing), which can be challenging in some housing markets.
