29062 (2026). Hon Kieran McAnulty to the Minister of Housing: What assessment, if any, has the Government made of the impact of the Budget 2026 changes to housing subsidies on the risk of homelessness for affected households?
Hon Chris Bishop: I am advised that the Government has considered how changes to housing subsidy settings may affect households (both positively and negatively), including through analysis of affordability and system level impacts.
This analysis is high level and indicative, and reflects the wide variation in household circumstances. It is intended to support understanding of how changes may affect the housing system overall, rather than to provide precise estimates of the impact on the risk of homelessness for individual households.
The risk of homelessness is influenced by a range of factors, including income, housing costs, availability of housing, and access to support services. The Government remains focused on increasing housing supply and supporting access to housing, including through targeted support for those with the greatest need.
