28916 (2023). Hon Dr Ayesha Verrall to the Prime Minister: What directions, if any, has the Minister given their responsible ministries, agencies or departments on reducing their staff headcount, by ministry, agency or department?

Rt Hon Christopher Luxon: My Government’s 100-day plan is focused on rebuilding the economy, easing the cost of living, restoring law and order, and delivering better public services. Regarding delivering better public services, I have not provided directions on reducing headcount to the Department of the Prime Minister and Cabinet (including the National Emergency Management Agency, and the Cyclone Recovery Unit both of whom are hosted by DPMC). The Government will be providing guidance to Public Service Chief Executives on savings. Savings will be informed by the growth of the public service headcount.
