28913 (2026). Glen Bennett to the Minister for Tourism and Hospitality: As of today, how much, if any, unallocated funding, across all years, remains in the Major Events Fund?
Hon Louise Upston: The Major Events Fund is the government’s enduring funding mechanism to support international major events for New Zealand. The Fund is currently a $66.3 million multi-year appropriation, with the current five-year appropriation through to the end of FY2026/27. Thereafter the Fund has a $11.1 million annual appropriation to administer. As of today (25 June 2026) $33.8 million has been approved for future events within the Major Events Fund. This is spread over the next six financial years to the end of FY2031/32 and includes events yet to be secured (such as bids to host or rights holder negotiations), events secured and under embargo, and events already announced for New Zealand. There remains just over $48.1 million available to allocate from the Major Events Fund through to end of FY2031/32. For completeness, this figure does not include Major Events Fund expressions of interest and applications under active consideration.
