28900 (2024). Francisco Hernandez to the Minister of Corrections: How many jobs broken down by job titles and region, if any, have been disestablished in the Minister’s Departments, if any, from the previous financial year ?
Hon Mark Mitchell: As you may be aware, Corrections is one of New Zealand’s largest core government agencies, employing over 10,000 staff, the majority of which are deployed in frontline roles across 17 Corrections-managed prisons and many more Community Corrections sites.
I am advised that there were no positions disestablished in the 2022/23 financial year within Corrections.
However, I am advised that the operational environment is such that staff resourcing can shift throughout the year based on demand or changes to rosters which requires positions to be removed from one team and subsequently created in another team within the Organisational Chart.
I am further advised that for some projects and initiatives, roles may be created for a set period of time. These roles are then removed if it is determined that contracts for these roles do not need to be extended when they end.
