Written Question
Published date: 17 Jun 2024
28859 (2024). Francisco Hernandez to the Minister of Education: How many jobs broken down by job titles and region, if any, are planned to be established in the Minister’s Departments, if any, over the next twelve months ?
Hon Erica Stanford: These decisions are the responsibility of the relevant agency Chief Executive.
The Ministry of Education (the Ministry) has publicly confirmed there is a proposed reduction of 755 Full Time Equivalent (FTE) positions across the Ministry, with 316 of these roles currently vacant. More information can be found on the Ministry’s website at: https://www.education.govt.nz/our-work/information-releases/issue-specific-releases/ministry-of-educations-savings-programme/.
Further information regarding this process is considered sensitive and should not be released until after this process is concluded. It is not in the public interest to release it at this time.
The Education Review Office (ERO) has confirmed a reduction of 18 FTE roles, 17 of these roles were vacant. ERO has no plans to establish further roles in the next 12 months. As ERO has a national structure, breakdown by region is not possible and releasing position titles would identify individuals’ information and is considered sensitive and should not be released.
The New Zealand Qualifications Authority has not been directed by the Government to reduce expenditure, however, has undertaken a thorough process to reduce costs and find savings. Further information regarding this process is considered sensitive and should not be released until after this process is concluded. It is not in the public interest to release it at this time.
This is also my response to written parliamentary questions 28862, 28863, 28864, 28865 (2024).
