28825 (2025). Arena Williams to the Minister of Commerce and Consumer Affairs: Does the Minister agree with the small business owner who said to 1News on 29 May 2025 that "We're just a hardworking Kiwi family trying to pay off our mortgage, struggling sometimes, and we should just be able to trust our bank that they're going to do the right thing in disclosing the right information"?
Hon Scott Simpson: The Credit Contracts and Consumer Finance Act 2003 provides protection to consumers and is enforced by the regulator to ensure this is the case. I note however, that the Credit Contracts and Consumer Finance Act 2003 does not regulate loans intended wholly or predominantly for any business purpose.
