28824 (2025). Hon Jenny Salesa to the Minister of Customs: How many drug interceptions at the border in 2024 involved packages or imports suspected to be connected to online drug purchasing networks?

Hon Casey Costello: I am advised that the New Zealand Customs Service (Customs) assess that smaller seizures of illicit drugs (e.g. under 100g) are often purchased through online networks. Customs makes these smaller seizures on a daily basis. Customs is unable to provide data on the number of drug interceptions at the border in 2024 connected to suspected online drug purchasing networks without undertaking substantial collation and I do not consider this use of officials’ time to be in the public interest.
