28819 (2025). Hon Jenny Salesa to the Minister of Customs: What funding, if any out of $35 Million allocated in Budget 2025 is specifically for upgrading Customs’ technological capabilities to detect drugs hidden in sea containers, aircraft, or mail?

Hon Casey Costello: The New Zealand Customs Service (Customs) has been allocated NZ$5.470 million over four years through the Budget 2025 initiative Combatting transnational and serious organised crime at the border, to increase the technological capability of Customs. This funding will allow Customs to invest in data analysis tools and new technology to detect illicit drugs and disrupt the activities of transnational, serious and organised crime groups.
