28818 (2025). Hon Jenny Salesa to the Minister of Customs: What internal Customs reviews or evaluations of drug interception capability and performance have been undertaken since January 2023, and what were the outcomes?

Hon Casey Costello: I am advised that the New Zealand Customs Service (Customs) undertakes an ongoing process of reviews to improve the agency’s drug interception capability and performance. This includes the review of seizures made by Customs and overseas partners to enable the ongoing refinement of Customs targeting methodology, the enhancement of search techniques, use of technology and Customs’ ability to detect the evolving methodologies and technologies used by criminal groups.
