28815 (2025). Hon Jenny Salesa to the Minister of Customs: What specific measures has Customs taken in the past 24 months to prevent, detect, and respond to criminal infiltration of border worker roles?
Hon Casey Costello: I am advised that the New Zealand Customs Service (Customs) employs a range of measures to prevent, detect and respond to criminal infiltration of border workers. This includes working with international and domestic partners to identify and prosecute criminal networks operating at the border, undertaking deliberate operational activity at airports and seaports (including in partnership with other government agencies), working with industry to raise awareness of the issue, and publicly promoting the use of Border Protect to report suspicious activity by border workers themselves.
