28813 (2025). Hon Jenny Salesa to the Minister of Customs: Has the NZ Customs conducted any proactive assessments of corruption vulnerability within higher levels of border operations or enforcement since 2023; if not, why not?
Hon Casey Costello: I am advised that the New Zealand Customs Service (Customs) regularly undertakes assessments of its corruption vulnerability across the whole organisation. Customs has mechanisms in place such as a regular, formal Declaration of Interest process and an active integrity programme overseen by the Risk Security and Assurance Team, that manage corruption risks and threats to Customs. Customs also offers a ‘speak up’ programme that enables staff and the public to raise any concerns anonymously. Should a vulnerability be identified, the Risk, Security and Assurance Team will work with the appropriate parts of the organisation to deal with any threat.
