28812 (2025). Hon Jenny Salesa to the Minister of Customs: How frequently, if at all, is anti-corruption and integrity training provided to frontline Customs officers and logistics workers with restricted area access?

Hon Casey Costello: I am advised that the New Zealand Customs Service (Customs) provides a range of anti-corruption and integrity training to all Customs staff including Customs Officers. I refer the Member to the attached appendix which shows the frequency of each type of training currently provided to staff. For private sector logistics workers, Customs has a dedicated Border Protect-Supply Chain team whose objectives are to engage with the supply chain industry in order to increase drug seizures and detect and deter criminal infiltration in the supply chain. Between 1 December 2023 and 30 May 2025, the Border Protect-Supply Chain team has undertaken over 1,700 visits to industry partners. A ‘Criminal Infiltration in the Supply Chain’ video resource is made available to logistics supple chain organisations, and the use of Border Protect communication channel to report suspicious activity is promoted. This engagement with industry partners has recently led to the arrest of three airport workers and the seizure of 54kg of methamphetamine.
