28807 (2025). Hon Jenny Salesa to the Minister of Customs: What percentage of Customs’ operational workforce currently undergoes regular psychological or ethical screening to mitigate risk of coercion or corruption?

Hon Casey Costello: I am advised that the New Zealand Customs Service (Customs) does not require its workforce to undergo regular psychological or ethical screening. Instead, Customs has a number of processes in place to mitigate risk of coercion or corruption, such as mandatory mental health programs for roles such as covert, surveillance, and child exploitation roles, mental strain and risk training for all operational leaders, and security clearance requirements for roles that require access to high-risk or sensitive information. Customs also requires all operational staff to complete anti-corruption and integrity training modules, sessions, and workshops.
