28803 (2023). Hon Jan Tinetti to the Minister of Education: Does the Minister intend to progress introducing an age-appropriate skills check-in towards the end of Year 2 to assess basic skills such as counting, phonics, and letter formation, as outlined in the National Party’s ‘Teaching the Basics Brilliantly Policy Document,’ and if so, what advice, reports, briefings, aides-memoire, or any other documents has the Minister, or any member of their Office commissioned on this by title and date?

Hon Erica Stanford: I have received briefings from the Ministry of Education on the education portfolio and I am looking forward to receiving further briefings from officials on the policies outlined in the National Party Manifesto and agreements between the National Party and its coalition partners. This is also my response to written parliamentary question 28804 (2023).
