28793 (2025). Hon Jenny Salesa to the Minister of Customs: How many foreign jurisdictions intercepted drug shipments bound for New Zealand from 2014 by year until 2024 (year to date), and what were the top five countries involved?
Hon Casey Costello: I am advised that the New Zealand Customs Service (Customs) works with a wide range of countries across Europe, the Americas, Asia, the Indo-Pacific and Africa to intercept and disrupt offshore drug shipments. In 2018, Customs increased its engagement with international partners to support greater targeting of drugs destined for New Zealand. This was driven by Customs offshore disruption strategy and supported by investment from the Government in the same year to implement the strategy I am advised that the information requested by the Member is not recorded by Customs in the way the Member has asked for it and providing this information would require substantial collation. I do not consider that officials collating such information is in the public interest.
