28788 (2023). Hon Jan Tinetti to the Minister of Education: Does the Minister intend to progress introducing short phonics checks for Year 2 students to inform parents and teachers about each child’s reading progress, as outlined in the 'National’s Literacy Guarantee' Policy Document, and if so, what advice, reports, briefings, aides-memoire, or any other documents has the Minister, or any member of their Office commissioned on this by title and date?

Hon Erica Stanford: I am yet to make a decision on this matter. I have not commissioned or received any advice on phonics since I was sworn in as Minister of Education on 27 November 2023. This is also my response to written parliamentary question 29445 (2023).
