28775 (2025). Debbie Ngarewa-Packer to the Minister of Transport: Has Waka Kotahi received any formal objections from Ngāti Tukorehe, Ngāti Wehi Wehi, or members of the affected community regarding the decision to increase the speed limit on State Highway 1 between Ohau and Manakau; if yes, what were their concerns?
Hon Chris Bishop: I refer the Member to pages 77-79 of the Speed Rule 2024 – Section 11 Transitional provisions (reversals) consultation Additional Analysis document, available on NZ Transport Agency Waka Kotahi (NZTA) website at: https://www.nzta.govt.nz/assets/About-us/docs/oia2-2025/pro-497-attachment.pdf. This document provides a breakdown of the level of support by user group, along with a summary of feedback received, presented by theme. NZTA confirmed that both Ngāti Tukorehe and Ngāti Wehi Wehi, through their submissions, expressed strong support for retaining the current lower speed limit (or in other words, they strongly opposed the proposed reversal to a higher speed limit) on State Highway 1 Ōhau to Manakau.
