28760 (2025). Dr Tracey McLellan to the Minister of Corrections: How many staff at Corrections are working in frontline roles, as of 31 May 2025?
Hon Mark Mitchell: Corrections is one of New Zealand’s largest core agencies, employing approximately 11,000 staff. The majority of Corrections’ workforce is deployed in frontline roles across 17 Corrections-managed prisons and many more Community Corrections sites across New Zealand. The remaining staff in back-office roles enable frontline staff to carry out their role by providing support. I am advised that as at 31 May 2025, there were 9,957.04 FTE frontline roles filled at Corrections, and 699.58 FTE frontline role vacancies. I am further advised that as at 31 May 2025, from a total of 1,306.45 FTE back-office roles, 234.75 FTE were vacant. This is also my response to WPQ 28762 (2025), WPQ 28764 (2025) and WPQ 28765 (2025).
