28713 (2025). Dr Tracey McLellan to the Minister of Corrections: How is Corrections monitoring, if at all, actual prisoner numbers versus projections used for Budget 2024 and 2025 funding allocation?

Hon Mark Mitchell: I am advised that Corrections monitors actual prison population demand on a daily and weekly basis. This monitoring involves ongoing comparison of actual demand compared with forecast demand provided by the Justice Sector Projections (JSP) used for Budget 2024 and 2025. I am further advised that this monitoring is essential as it supports effective governance of the prison network and informs the development of budget cost pressure bids associated with owning and operating a prison network that remains safe, effective, and fit for purpose.
