28624 (2023). Arena Williams to the Minister for Building and Construction: Does the Minister agree that “excessive regulation” is a problem for the Building and Construction sector as outlined in the National Party’s “Better Building and Construction” Sector, and if so how many regulations has the Minister removed for the week of 27 November 2023, if any?
Hon Chris Penk: I agree with the issues identified in the National Party’s ‘Better Building and Construction’ manifesto document. The construction sector has indicated that the building system is not fundamentally broken, but that there are regulatory barriers to achieving the most efficient and effective outcomes. I am committed to the streamlining of building services and focused on improving the quality of regulation to make it easier for New Zealanders to build safe and affordable homes. No such regulations were removed in that week. The Government is focused on delivering the commitments laid out in its 100 Day Action Plan. There will be announcements on Building and Construction in due course.
