28610 (2025). Hon Jenny Salesa to the Minister of Customs: Has Customs conducted threat assessments in 2024–25 on the laundering of drug proceeds through New Zealand bank accounts, and if not, why not?

Hon Casey Costello: I am advised that the New Zealand Customs Service (Customs) has not conducted any threat assessments on laundering of drug proceeds through New Zealand bank accounts for the period 1 January 2024 to 4 June 2025. Threat assessments of this nature are conducted by the New Zealand Police’s Financial Intelligence Unit. However, Customs along with other agencies contribute information to the Police’s risk assessment as required.
