28609 (2024). Francisco Hernandez to the Minister responsible for the NZSIS: What advice, if any, has the Minister had about the impacts of any job losses, if any, on the Minister’s departments, if any ?

Hon Judith Collins: The NZSIS was asked to identify savings of a particular dollar amount through the Budget 2024 process. It was not set targets in terms of FTE reductions or achieving particular FTE levels. I therefore received advice from the agency regarding alternative cost savings, not job losses. No job losses are proposed for the NZSIS as a result of the Government’s Initial Baseline Exercise and the Budget 2024 process. Beyond this, it is my expectation that the agency continue to manage its workforce in a fiscally responsible manner. It is not in the public interest for me to provide further details around the staffing of an intelligence and security agency.
