28529 (2024). Teanau Tuiono to the Minister for Regulation: Will the government delay changes to the ECE sector until the legislative mandate of the Ministry of Regulation is clear and if not why?

Hon David Seymour: No. The Ministry was established as a government agency by Order in Council and is undertaking this review at the request of the Minister for Regulation, Hon David Seymour, in its capacity as a public service agency providing advice to Ministers. The Ministry for regulation does not require any additional statutory authority to undertake the review. The Ministry does not have any statutory powers to require any group or individual to engage with, or provide any information to, the review. However, it will engage widely, both through representative groups and directly with the people affected by relevant regulations, including teachers, parents and caregivers. This engagement is voluntary.
